Which files exactly are you referring to? So far as I'm aware, the only files which psppire creates in the current directory are pspp.jnl and psppire.txt (and some png files if graphs are involved). Neither of these are, what I would consider, temporary files. They are the desired output from psppire.

Note, that even if psppire cannot write these files, it shouldn't cause any serious problems (it shouldn't crash).

Can you tell us which files you're concerned about, and what problems it creates for you?

At the moment PSPPire places temporary files in the current directory. In my opinion it is cleaner to use /tmp for this. This avoids problems in installations where the user has no write priviliges on the current directory.
