I confirm no leak, and action limit exception.
Please add another bug report for the action limit exception,
it's not the 158.swf file itself, so must be a loaded one.

It may well be a memory leak in 0.8.1, but not in 0.8.2 (at least for me), so the answer to your problem is to get a recent version of Gnash.

This movie gets stuck in a loop and throws an actionlimits exception, so it's not all good.

Hello,

I'm new here and I hope it's ok to open a bug report. I would have discussed it in a forum beforehand but it seems there is none and I couldn't find a similar issue already being recorded.

I have encountered a web site which crashed gnash to a point where it seems to leak memory. after 1:30 min it uses over 1 GB of memory and brings your system down if you don't "kill" it.

I'm running gnash 0.8.1 on Ubuntu 7.10 Server with Gnome and Firefox 2.0.0.13. No compiz, pretty minimalistic.

This is the site I have encountered the problem, it's the flash banner in the right top hand corner (SitePal) and once it start's to load you are also not able to quit gnash with "rightclick - quit". for me the problem is reproducable.

http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102435

this is the output from the console:

tom@ws-dev:~$ ps -ef | grep gnash
tom 8624 8469 89 00:47 ? 00:00:16 /usr/bin/gtk-gnash -v -x 27335849 -j 336 -k 280 -u http://banner-a.oddcast.com/ccs2/banners/158.swf -U http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102435 -P bgcolor=#ffffff -P flashvars=link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oddcast.com%2Faffiliates%2Fentry%2F%3FbannerId%3D158%26affiliateId%3D49797%26promotionId%3D14160%26link%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.sitepal.com%26srcurl%3Dwebdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php&colorHex=003366&audioType=2&text=Type+anything+you+want%21%2C+%3Cb%3E%3Cp+align%3D%22left%22%3E%3Cfont+color%3D%22%23FF6600%22%3ETry%3C%2Ffont%3E%3Cfont+color%3D%22%23FF6600%22%3E+FREE%3C%2Ffont%3E++Speaking+Characters+For+Your%3Cfont+color%3D%22%23FF6600%22%3E+Website%3C%2Ffont%3E%3C%2Fcenter%3E%3C%2Fb%3E%3C%2Fp%3E&aniLimit=0&newPage=1&xt=swf&media=http%3A%2F%2Fbanner-a.oddcast.com%2Fccs2%2Fbanners%2F158%2F -P height=280 -P name=ODDBANNER -P pluginspage=http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer -P quality=high -P src=http://banner-a.oddcast.com/ccs2/banners/158.swf -P swliveconnect=0 -P type=application/x-shockwave-flash -P width=336 -P wmode=transparent -
tom 8630 8600 0 00:47 pts/1 00:00:00 grep gnash
tom@ws-dev:~$

Please let me know if you can reproduce the problem or wish more information. I have attached a screenshot showing the increase in memory usage.
