If these problems occurred on the console-screen, commit ac50f9c might have eliminated them. I am marking this bug closed as much for its age. If the problems were not on the console-screen, or you still have problems, please let me know; I'll re-open.

Sometimes after running and exiting a shell subprocess, Edwin wedges with the error `Bad file descriptor' from select, which is called from TEST-SELECT-REGISTRY. I have also observed a zombie subprocess of Scheme, which may be related; I wasn't able to track down its source, though.
