Without the blank dots, the position of a single filled dot relative to the grid is unclear.

The counterargument might be that little hollow circular bumps might be difficult to distinguish from filled circular bumps, were these glyphs to somehow be made into tactile form.

The Unicode standard, section 15.10, states:
"When output on a Braille device, dots shown as black are intended to be rendered as tangible. Dots shown in the standard as open circles are blank (not rendered as tangible)."

So the patterns are intended primarily to clearly represent visually the states of a Braille output device, rather than to somehow serve directly as tactile information for the blind.

And so, I wrote a script to replace the range in a consistent and flexible way.

In CVS. Thanks, Jacob!

This is from Jacob Poon's report of 2007-10,
https://savannah.gnu.org/support/?106274

In Unicode standard, Braille patterns are shown as arrays of dots, all either open or filled. In Mono, one sees only the filled dots.

Jacob claims this leads to confusion. Is this correct? Must the open dots be present?

This is a big job, and I'm not sure how to do it right. I'll think about it.

------------------------------------------------------------
Braille Pattern glyphs (U+2800-28FF) do not contain white dots, which can make some glyphs confusingly similar to other punctuations and symbols, such as Proportion (U+2237), Colon, Diaeresis, Vertical four dots (U+205E). The bug does not exist in other font families.
