This seems to have fixed the problem. Closing this bug.

Bruno's followup commit ee761da90 likely fixes other related problems as well that our test did not catch.

I reported this bug to Bruno Haible, maintainer of vasnprintf, and to bug-gnulib, in message http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.gnulib.bugs/13335

Bruno then fixed it in gnulib commit f797ae748. Can you verify that this in turn fixes the cygwin failure?

Ah hah. When I get a chance, then, I'll compose a bug report to the gnulib mailing list.

Thanks for tracking down the problem.

When I compile that test program in the simplest way, "gcc foo.c" it prints the correct answer. However, when I add a -I./gl and link against libgl.a, I get the wrong answer.

So it looks as if gnulib is breaking something.

As a followup to my IRC conversation with jmd:

This looks like it could be a Cygwin printf rounding issue. On Cygwin, what does the following test program print?

#include <stdio.h>
int main (void) {
printf("%30.4e\n", 999.95);
return 0;
}

The output should be 9.9995e+02. If it's 1.0000e+03, then Cygwin's libc is buggy.

On cygwin, tests/formats/num-out.sh reports a failure.

A diff of the output is attached.
