LocalConection is simply a shared memory segment with AMF objects in it. It's used to transfer data between SWF movies. It's a bit like a SOL file with a different header. You don't need two SWF movies to use LocalConnection.

Gnash's LocalConnection implementation isn't quote finished. The reading of data works, but the LocalCOnnection::send() hasn't been implemented yet.

It has two LocalConnection objects and from the names it appears it's for communication with a Flex app (compiled in SWF9), as described in:

http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache:http%3A//kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do%3FexternalId%3D749eaa47

There's no SWF9 on that site, though; perhaps it's just for testing.

A page with quizplayer.swf embedded is: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7354155.stm

I can't see any other movie supposed to be running. I confess I don't really know how LocalConnection is used.

Looks like it uses LocalConnection so can't be run
w/out running a brother movie, probbaly on the webpage.

I can't handle to make it work with the pp either...
Trying with flasm to making is simply load the xml
but the loadQuiz never enters.

This is suspicious:

push '_root'
getVariable
push 'path'
getMember
not
branchIfTrue label1
push '_root'
getVariable
push 'path'
getMember
push '?nocache=' // won't work locally, would it ?
add
push 0.0, 'Math'
getVariable
push 'random'
callMethod
push 1000000
multiply
push 1, 'Math'
getVariable
push 'floor'
callMethod
add
push 1, 'quizPlayer'
getVariable
push 'loadQuiz'
callMethod

Attached movie doesn't work.

gnash quizplayer.swf -P "flashvars=path=quiz.xml"

Interestingly, it uses a LocalConnection - no idea what for.
