So, I will close this report.

If you see any other problems, please don't hesitate.

Note: really the program is scaling something incorrectly. You might consider sending a bug report its authors.

On the freefont-bugs mailing list, there is a controversy going on right now about the line height of the FreeMono font. So there are issues.

Hello,
your screen shot looks really fine and you are right in your guess: this is related to Windows and, more specifically to my desktop configuration: my PPP configuration is unusual (120% of the normal size) and this is the reason: I've reverted it to the usual "100% of the normal size" and now the two characters '-' and '=' are quite distinguisable
Thank you and best regards,

Francisco,

That certainly doesn't look good. In fact, it's so bad, I don't understand it.

On my Ubuntu (gutsy) Linux, running KDE, I tried FreeMono in various sizes, on a Dell D420 (which has a high-resolution LCD screen). I found the two lines of the equals sign to be visibly separate down to 6 pt (!) and distinct from the dash down to 5 pt. See attachment.

So it is probably a Windows thing. I know on my Windows Vista, there are two different font-smoothing algorithms, which you can pick for a Windos session. They work very differently.

This might also depend on your screen resolution.

Hello,

no, in the two previous releases I've used before, it was occurring too (but I didn't send a bug report)

>2) Please attach a screen shot.

ok, I send a screen shot

Francisco,

1) I didn't intentionally change the equals sign.

Do you think this changed from the old versions of the font?

2) Please attach a screen shot.

I haven't looked yet at it in Windows (I only have one dual-boot machine, so it will be some time.

Hello,
Only for you to know, the two lines of the equal sign "=" are so close that, at a size of 9 and bellow (and even at 10), it looks like a dash '-'. This occurs on this environment:

Windows XP Professional
font version: FreeMono 1.66
format: OTF and TTF
program: PuTTY
monitor size: 17.3 ''
resolution: 1024*800
PPP configuration: 120% of the normal size (115PPP)
character size: 9 or less (even 10)
