In another bug report by Andrey V. Panov, it was suggested that the Cyrillic glyphs be replaced by those from Alexej Kryukov's TemporaLCGUnicode.

This actually fixes the vertical height and stroke width problem reported in this report. The Tempora font is explicitly based on the Nimbus Latin letters.

So far, completely replaced the Serif face.

The spacing wasn't particularly good in Tempora, so I had to tweek it a lot.

Further work on this in CVS.

Compounding the present problem were several others. The Cyrillic ranges were hardly usable as they were.

There were many dozens of incorrect glyphs in higher-numbered characters. It looked as if someone started copying letters that were like the correct ones, meaning to edit them later, but never got around to it. (Or else, a facile copying of glyphs that kinda looked right, but really kinda weren't.)

These I deleted. It's better to have no glyph than a wrong glyph.

There were so many problems in Serif Cyrillic ranges, I just die a sweeping overhaul.

In CVS are a bunch of changes, mostly getting rid of the most egregious problems (including dozens of incorrect glyphs). Needs lots more work.

The ugliest is in roman. The letters, even of the Russian alphabet, are of inconsistent height (awfully, small 0438 (ii) 0446 (tse))

  • and they vary from the height of Latin
  • and they vary from the height of italic and bold.

They are a mish-mash of letters from several fonts, of similar (but not quite identical) weight, and similar, (but not quite identical) size.

I think the best solution would be to identify the face that best matches Latin, and fill the range with that. I think this is possible because the rarer letters seem to be better: the common letters are the ones that are wrong.

The letters vary in size in Serif, both upper and lowercase.

Already fixed the i, but there are several others that are 14 em shorter than most. But really, the shorter ones are more commensurate with the Latin...

Also, the E-grave and E-diaeresis and their small counterparts look like they're from different fonts.

In some letters (u0439), the brev mark is taken from the combining marks, in others, it is drawn in custom form. (u048A)

046d has very messy points
