Thanks, Daniel.

It will be in the next release.

Excellent, that looks precisely right.

I seem to remember (from a brief and unfortunate encounter) that the Times New Roman (and other MS fonts) shipped with Vista and MS Office 2007 contain the correct italic Yat. Additionally, DejaVu Serif and Adobe Times Ten Cyrillic contain the correct italic glyph.

in CVS, SerifItalic and SerifBoldItalic

Note: Times New Roman does not implement this letter in a special form in italic.

So it resembles an italic letter n with a small bowl (as from the letter b) attached to the lower right side.

FreeSerifItalic has no entry at all for U+0463, so what you are seeing is either your software simply slanting the FreeSerif glyph for yat, or else a glyph from a different font.

It should have an entry in FreeSerifItalic.

This won't come in the upcoming release (I've already packaged it up, and am expecting to announce it shortly). But I will try to get it into the next one, which I hope will follow soon. There should be also some other improvements for Cyrillic in that release.

Thanks, Daniel!

It should be noted that the oblique form is correct for sans-serif faces, but the italic form is required for serif faces.

The serif italic form of the lowercase Yat (U+0463) takes on a distinct form, rather than just being an oblique form of the upright. You can see an example here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yat

You can also see an example here:
http://files.seminaria.ru/notes/yaichkov_selected/i_3-7.pdf
(it's the 3rd-from-last glyph in the second line)

This letter was used in Russian orthography until the reforms of 1918, and was in use in Bulgarian until the 1940s.
