The urls stopped working.
Anyway, chances are NetConnection should resolve relative urls to the url of SWF, not base url

Seems the bug comes from using the -U parameter, which points to http://www.magic-fire.de/content/view/13/27/, to resolve the FLV's address.
The FLV is at http://www.magic-fire.de/images/stories/test.flv (the real URL of the SWF file),
Gnash gives unhelpful debugging messages because the wrong URL that Gnash uses unhelpfully redirects to an HTML page, which ffmpeg obviously can't do much with.

The "remote YouTube" issue is different from this bug. Please file a separate bug for it, if there is not already one present.

here is the scenario:
any vid that I watch in youtube comes up fine. When the same video is embedded into a livejournal posting, this comes up as a white space and does not play.
I was under the impression from reading your original posting that this is the same issue and was putting forth further commentary on it.

The bug I'm talking about is that the content works
fine if you point the browser to the actual .swf,
just not when you point the browser at the HTML page
containing it...
If you have a specific example of the same bug from
livejournal.com please post the exact url.

I have found the same thing while using http://www.livejournal.com. There are regular postings of embedded content (and you can create a journal for free and grab embed code off of youtube to post a video).
What I was getting was a blank square where the embedded video should be

This movie:
http://www.magic-fire.de/images/stories/magic-fire.swf
works fine, but when embedded in an html page:
http://www.magic-fire.de/content/view/13/27/
doesn't show up.
This was with epiphany
