Done in head.

Fair point - I don't keep up with Adobe's releases...

Anyway, I reckon this will be changed for the next Gnash release.

Note that Adobe is shipping 9.0.115.0 as of now. Would 115 > 99 be a problem?

Since the revision is already set to 99, just changing the major version would be enough.

I don't think this is a blocker. It's most definitely a feature and not a bug.

Updating the major version might not be enough. E.g. the example site I gave requires no less than 9.0.28.

(hidden at http://www.tv3.cat/svp2/js/svp.js)

If you're going to set 9.x by default, maybe the best would be to mimic the latest version number from Adobe, or just set it to 9.0.999.

Just my 2 eurocents.

It would be convenient to allow runtime configuration,
ideally using the same gnashrc as the standalone.
Unfortunately this would mean parsing all the gnashrc
files twice (once from the plugin and second time from
the standalone).

The issue here is recognition of Gnash by Javascript detection scripts. Everything works fine here, but as Robert says we advertise version 8,0,99,0 and that means some files that Gnash is perfectly capable of playing are never attempted. (Many of the weebls-stuff.com files, for instance).

To fix it, just change AC_DEFINE([DEFAULT_FLASH_MAJOR_VERSION], ["8"], [Default Flash major version]) in configure.ac.

Whether we want to do this is another question, but I'd be in favour of it.

Would be nice if Gnash advertised as being a newer version of Flash. Some sites fail in very confusing ways when they detect Flash 8.x, e.g.:

http://www.tv3.cat/videos/272039

will try to run "expressinstall.swf" from the SWFObject suite (which also fails) when Flash < 9.0.28 is detected.

Advertising 9.x doesn't make this site work, but I think it's better to try and fail than give up from the beginning (and maybe make the "UNIMPLEMENTED: SWF9" message more visible if that is appropiate).
