in FreeSans CVS revision 1.84
date: 2008-02-2
moved all Arabic down 200EM.

Not sure about the size question.

In the Arabic range of FreeSerif the glyph baseline is set far from where it should be, and sometimes the size of the glyphs are incommensurate with other ranges.

For example, compare the Arabic range of FreeSerif with those of FreeSans. Make a string with some Arabic characters next to some Latin ones. In FreeSerif both Arabic characters float far above the Latin baseline, and the glyphs dwarf the largest Latin letters.

The effect is that mixed Arabic and Latin script looks quite bad.

This problem also exists in other script ranges.  I'll report each separately as I find them.

This has contributed to the font height problem, that was remedied as such in bug #15956: Line height is too big in sans and serif.
