Just cranked up Windows, installed gvim, and checked.
Yes, it now sees FreeMono, since the application of the
Debian patches.

[field #13] Summary: Any idea why gvim doesnt recognize FreeMono?
[field #14] Original Submission: This may be a problem with vim of course, but the windows gui of gvim doesn't recognize FreeMono as a monspaced font. It is not selectable by the gui or recognized as valid when I load it manually. I have FreeMono working in other apps. Gvim also does not recognize the font Monospace by George Williams, from here:
http://bibliofile.mc.duke.edu/gww/fonts/Monospace/

Any ideas? gvim seems to 'see' other monospace fonts I install.

I'm also seeing this problem with not being able to choose FreeMono under PuTTY.

Aha,

I discovered the problem. This from a posting to the vim support group.[1]

The problem with the Monospace fonts is a defect (among the very
many) that have TrueType fonts generated with Fontographer, namely that it is unable to tag a fixed-width font as such (and according to specs it has to be tagged so in both the OS/2 and post tables).

Vim and other applications that only admit monospaced fonts don't allow FreeMono and several other unicode monospace fonts because these fonts don't have the flag set.

Could this be fixed on the font?
