The repeating issue was reported in bug #22263. I'm not aware of a CPU usage issue -- is the usage different with -r1? Please file a bug if your answer is yes. :)

It indeed appears not to segfault any more.

Sounds aren't repeating as quickly as they should be, either in zoomhenge or other movies (also SWF5/pacman-flash, I think), and the CPU usage is pretty high, but it's good that it isn't crashing any more. The movies play much more smoothly too.

Bwy, could you please test that this bug is fixed in CVS?

Tomas, thank you for your patch. However, it was decided some time ago that I should rework the Gstreamer sound handler, which is now in CVS.

I've attached a patch which I believe fixes this crash. The problem was/is that a thread is started to kill playback of a sound when done, but without the patch several threads could be started to kill the same sound, which leads to a segfault because a sound can only be killed once.

That's the figure I mean.

Is the "jumping" figure the one that has "help" over his head? (That's the only movement I see, anyway.)

Play zoomhenge, move the mouse over the jumping figure a bit, and it segfaults.

Backtrace:

#0 0x00002b43466aa45c in g_type_check_instance_cast ()
from /usr/lib64/libgobject-2.0.so.0
#1 0x00002b43450d1b54 in sound_killer (user_data=0xbc6c70)
at gst/sound_handler_gst.cpp:161

Sometimes also this message:

(<unknown>:16365): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to `GstElement'

(<unknown>:16365): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_element_set_state: assertion `GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed

The sound is a bit grotty anyway; it seems to be cut short, and I hear faint clicks from my speakers between each sound.
