I dont think this is correct.

The ROTOR produces IL like that, that is a "standard" code.

The Inside Microsoft IL Asm. is full of examples of class augmentation. I will post them tonight when i get home.

I'm going to mark this as "not a bug" for the time being,
until someone demonstrates a compiler that relies upon
this functionality. It is highly unlikely to occur in
round-tripping or normal CLS-compliant language compilers.
