i realised :)

acutally, i switched to gnash since i'm now having a 64bit only system (i do not wish to install any 32bit chroot or proprietary software because of flash any more) so i just started using it ...

.. great work guys! very quick answer and also solution. i will keep posting trouble if i run across it.

Gnash is heavily developed, every release becomes obsoleted in a couple of days (when not obsoleted before being released :P)

great! it works - using a snapshot out of CVS (HEAD of from some minutes ago) and this patch, it works. thanx guys!

this patch is not back-portable it seems, because when applied to 0.8.1 sound disappears in this BBC languages swf.

gui/gtk-gnash -v http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/lj/first_things/taxi/a3/map.swf

kde-gnash also tested.
Both work fine with current head.
Make sure sound is not disabled in your .gnashrc.

i've now patched gnash 0.8.1 with the provided patch and using kde-gnash (im using konqueror) now i do not get any sound at all.

my gnash-kde contains already the kdepart patch [1] applied to it, maybe this is the trouble

how did you test it?

This is only one of the problems with BBC language SWFs. I've added some to bug #20911 that seem to display that bug.

I'm opening another bug (#21472) for what looks like yet a different problem.

Ops, sorry, concurrent updates of the item.
I confirm the fix, let's wait for Damir to follow up ..

Looks fine to me. Doesn't fix the endofworld testcase, but might be unrelated. Feel free to commit.
The best would be adding a testcase under misc-ming.all, we have very few, look at eventSound1.c and eventSoundTest1-Runner.cpp for a start.

Should be fixed now.

This is the patch that fixes the sound problems and improves Magical Trevor (and various other looping movies).

Well, for bbc_language.swf, then:

Each button consistently goes to a particular frame of sprite /

Puerta del Sol: 141
Calle Mayor: 10
Calle Conception: 91.

And steps through the frames ("second run") while the (usually wrong) sound is playing.

I'm not sure what happens between pressing the button and playing the sound. There is a goto frame (different for each button), and it seems that tags in all frames get executed ("first run") up to the frame after the goto frame. So for Puerta del Sol (goto frame 139) it executes tags in frames up to 140.

But the sound that plays seems to correspond to the frame it starts from, which is inconsistent, on this first run as follows (clicking on Puerta del Sol):

Starting Frame - Sound
50 - Gonzales
1 - Calle Mayor
141 - Conception
70 - Barcelona

But what makes it change the starting frame, I haven't worked out.

URL of the originally reported movie is:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/lj/first_things/taxi/a3/index.shtml

Seems to embed the sounds, as it can easily be run standalone

I called it 'bbc_language.swf' (easy handle for future references)

This one doesn't work either:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/german/lj/taxi/roleplay/speak.swf?phrasenumber=3

It may be the same problem. The phrase required is passed as a GET variable, but you always get the same one.

Using gnash -va:

PC:0 - EX: ActionPushData ("phrase")
0) type=string, value=[string:phrase]
After execution: PC 0, next PC 11, stack follows
Stack: "[string:phrase]"

PC:11 - EX: ActionPushData ("phrasenumber")
0) type=string, value=[string:phrasenumber]
After execution: PC 11, next PC 28, stack follows
Stack: "[string:phrase]" | "[string:phrasenumber]"

PC:28 - EX: ActionGetVariable
-- get var: phrasenumber=[string:3]
After execution: PC 28, next PC 29, stack follows
Stack: "[string:phrase]" | "[string:3]"

PC:29 - EX: ActionSetVariable
-------------- phrase = [string:3]
-- set var: phrase = [string:3]
After execution: PC 29, next PC 30, stack follows
Stack:

Seems all right, but unfortunately it happens right at the end, after everything has already been executed.

hi there,

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/

has a lot of usefull flash elements, that are only partially supported. for example the flash there has a map and on click of different elements, you get different sounds. for example here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/spanish/lj/first_things/taxi/a3/index.shtml

and gnash plays unfortunately always the same sound.

support for things like this flash elements to learn languages would enhance gnash to a great extend - it would not be "only the player to play youtube" with :)

thanx in advance,

Damir
(trying to learn spanish atm)
