I altered my X server colour depth to 24bpp and the problem goes away, AGG output:

10871] 14:00:45: X server is using BGRA32 pixel format
So it looks like it's a bug with 16 bit colour.
Forcing a redraw makes no difference. I'll switch back to 16bpp and post the rowsizes.

Strange, I can't reproduce the problem, but my gfx card is running in RGB24 mode.
- What "rowsize" is reported for problematic (slanted) window sizes (please post the whole line)?
- Try to force a redraw of the window when you see slanted rendering, i.e. move the window out of the desktop and back or simply start the game or change the height of the window.
Off-topic: I'm experiencing sporadic halts of about one second with high cpu usage (cpu fan starts), mostly when the ball reaches one of the players.

What is a good SWF to compare frame rate? I have tried with several and there is no significant difference between the widths you requested.

The reported pixel format is RGB565.
Frames per second comparison needs a rebuild, so will take a bit longer.

Hmm...
GTK-AGG does /not/ align the line stride (size of a line in bytes) to 4 bytes (a common optimization) but I'd not expect a huge difference from that. Would not be difficult to change, though.
Please start gnash with the -v option and post the output here. I'd like to know the pixel format used by AGG on your machine.
Also, use the -f option to give us frames-per-second values (so we can compare) for each width between 1024 and 1028 (need to know if it's really an even/odd thing or if it needs to be divisible by 4).

It's any time the movie has an odd-number pixel width, whether that's the native width or if I resize the window.
A movie like geo.swf with a with of 1025 pixels starts slanted, but is rendered properly if I drag the window to an even width.
Just changing the width of the window obviously doesn't change the size of the movie at all, but does change the way it's rendered.

This may have been reported for OpenGL as well.
Any flash movie that is an uneven number of pixels wide (height is not affected) is rendered as a slant. Changing the width to an even value by dragging the window makes it render properly.
The problem happened after a distro upgrade (build from a fresh checkout), so most of the linked libraries and the compiler are different.
