Doesn't seem obviously related to altscreen, at all.

What would be most interesting, would be to know how vim is being quit. There are certainly unclean ways to quit it that would produce this behavior.

(Please reopen if you come back to check on this bug, and provide information on how you were exiting vim.)

The problem is related to the alternate screen behaviour (altscreen).

There are two patches that solves this problem. One of them "has" the screen developer "blessing". See bugs #19805 and #15457.

If I

grep -Rl 'something * | xargs vim

Then after I quit vim, the terminal won't show what I'm typing and no longer understands newlines in output.

I'm not sure if this is a screen issue or not.
