I re-tested this with the latest code (today mainline) since there were fixes to the "more than 2 threads hanging" bug and got:

"Too many rollouts done for alternative 1"

just fyi

Hi Thomas,

yes these two bugs are entirely unrelated. I put in the assertion because I didn't entirely trust the counting logic. It simple means that some candidate was rolled out one, or more, times too many. I'll change it to an error message and see if I can figure out what is going on.

When running 1 Thread it completed ok

I re-ran it and did not seem to get much more info.
I may be a rookie at this right now...

Could this be a slightly different problem?

I am running 2 threads.

I will try again with 1 thread.

altGameCount[alt]++;
if (altGameCount[alt] >= cGames)
{
fNoMore[alt] = TRUE;
g_assert (altGameCount[alt] == cGames);
}

I also saw a crash... rolling out 3 moves to 5184

Crashes when finished.

I will remove optimization and re-run.

The Assertion failing may help more...

No special flags, -O2 -g as set by configure.

Editing out -O2 from the Makefile gave a more sensible and usable trace though.

The frame pointer obtained from gdb seems a bit out off place. Which CFLAGS did you use when compiling?

RHEL 5.0, x86_64.

When rolling out more than 6 moves, gnubg crashes.

- this happens on a rhel5/x86_64 system, but not on rhel5/i386 or freebsd6/i386
- this already happened on a rhel4/x86_64 system (but not rhel4/i386)
- this happens when the 7 or more moves are selected from the hint or analysis panel, not from gnubg -t or when "rollout =1 =2, etc..." is typed in the term where gnubg with GUI is started
- this doesn't happen when started from valgrind
