FYI: Thomas reverted the change in the release_0_8_1 branch and HEAD. His patch is still in the release_0_8_1_rc1 tag.

I have the bad sound quality on some homestarrunner movies, which certainly does coincide with the jumps when it's syncing.

I can't reproduce the looping you mentioned in http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail26.html, though, either on a build from cvs 2007-08-07 or in current head. In fact, that movie hardly has any sound problems for me and plays right through.

My build is with agg, gtk and ffmpeg, AMD64: does the problem only affect certain configurations?

The bad audio quality is most likely due to some new (primitive) audio sync'ing, where we sync the audio to the animation. So I guess it's not a bug, just a feature... Though we actually ought to sync the animation to the audio...
The looping you mention sounds a bit like a parser error, which would cause premature looping.
I guess this could be a 0.8.1 blocker...

I was trying to watch a Strong Bad Email (an old SWF - can't be too new, this one was from 2001 or 2002). Anyway, I'm watching number 26, found here:

http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail26.html

That SWF has some major problems using the 0.8.1 RC1 release. To start with, the audio is very bad quality (which isn't normal) - it has random noise in it. The real problem, though, is that when it gets to about 20 seconds in or so, it loops back to the beginning, and the whole thing starts over. It gets stuck in a loop which requires me to right-click and choose "Exit Gnash" in order to regain control of Firefox.

That site has other problems, too, including that the majority of the menus don't work correctly in Gnash (they won't even draw, or they'll get stuck on their loading screen, or something like that), but this is the one that really seemed to be bad.
