Sorry for delay - I was out of the country.

OK, it wasn't my patch... but it allows Konq to play embedded youtube videos - thanks.

Thanks Nick, your patch committed to both head and 0.8.1 branch.
Let me know if this bug item can be closed or refers to a more general issue about other then youtube.com uses...

Blocker again for the kparts issue, back to normal/important after kparts behaves as nsapi (we should consider sharing some code in the future)

i'm attaching a minimalistic patch that enables youtube videos in konqueror. note however that kpart still does not pass -U or any -P parameters. while i didn't notice any problems with this it might be wise to make sure that both plugins behave the same way in the long run.

Not a blocker anymore, since I belive this was never tested before.

No, I do not get a crash - if you look at my debug trace, you can see the URL gets changed and kpart then can't load the *.swf - 404, file not found.

I belive what Thomas is seeing is the same as bug #20657.
Nick is it the same of yours ?
That bug has the item attached, for easy testing with the standalone player.
Note that bug #20657 is unrelated to renderer and gui (can be reproduced with -r0)

Yes, I can't play any youtube embedded video at all in Konqueror (works great standalone gnash player though).

It seems the URL gets confused:

Konqueror never crashes though - it justs doesn't play embedded youtube (or derivatives) files.

I can reproduce the embedded youtube player crash from http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/01/26/youtube-support/
I've attached the backtrace.

I see. I don't have up-to-date GTK stuff (Slackware) and use KDE gui. No wonder it doesn't work...

Gnash as a standalone is super* - I was just trying to find out why this works embedded:

http://www.userfriendly.org/animation/compaq.html

and this doesn't:

http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/01/26/youtube-support/

#!/bin/sh
read -p "url: " url
swf=$(wget --quiet -O - "$url" | grep -F player2.swf | cut -d \" -f 2)
gnash -G kde -v $* "http://youtube.com$swf"

I was wrong, just tested and KDE gui works perfectly as a firefox plugin

firefox plugin invokes 'gnash'.
'gnash', in turn, needs to suppor the GTK gui.
It might be that your 'gnash' binary runs the KDE gui by default.
I think I'll force GTK gui by hard-coding the -G flag in it
to make sure.

Ummm. I can't use the FF one - it just locks FF up.

Konq is my main browser. I can't work out how to debug FF as it runs from a script.

It is possible that klash is not using the -P argument, did you try with the firefox plugin ?

I have been looking at why youtube embedded video in Konqueror doesn't work; it looks like a URL mangle.

I used this page to test:

http://wordpress.com/blog/2006/01/26/youtube-support/

KDE kio pulls in the respective redirect URL:

kio (KIOJob): TransferJob::slotRedirection(http://www.youtube.com/p.swf?video_id=_dIya1aJJKA&eurl=&iurl=http%3A//img.youtube.com/vi/_dIya1aJJKA/default.jpg&t=OEgsToPDskLu_P3V-cw-0cVK6SJIP-f9&rel=0)

But later, Gnash gets confused and seems to totally lose the '_dIya1aJJKA' part of the URL to the image:

http://img.youtube.com/vi/_dIya1aJJKA/default.jpg

I have looked at the code, but cannot see why.
