"make sc_po_check" now does this.

This won't be mentioned in the NEWS file since there's no user-observable impact and no findutils code change was needed. For the same reason I'll close it immediately, too.

Additionally, as a result of the thread that sparked this bug report, Bruno Haible just introduce the --podir and --pobase options to gnulib-tool, which can be used to make gnulib drop all of its translatable strings in a separate directory than findutils/po, under the second domain findutils-gnulib. If we switch to his approach (which, admittedly, is still under development as I write this), then you would distribute two po directories, but the findutils-gnulib.pot file would be automatically translated by the gnulib TP, so you would only be responsible for maintaining findutils' specific files in POTFILES.in.

It will be worth tracking the bug-gnulib list for a while to see where Bruno's idea leads.

The file po/POTFILES.in needs to track all the source files containing translatable strings. A large number of the source files that get built tinto findutils are part of gnulib, and get added freely by the gnulib developers. Therefore it would be useful to have a way of verifying that there are no source files which have been accidentally missed out of po/POTFILES.in. Jim Meyering writes:-

There's a similar check in coreutils' Makefile.maint.
See its po-check rule.
