04:57 < asac> strk_: well it fixed the non modern gst case ... and won't change the modern gst case ... so commit appears pretty safe. Go ahead!

Yes! That fixed the problem!
Is it safe to commit this to CVS?

Udo, please test the patch I attached.

Thanks,

Nope, no difference with current CVS.

I'm pretty sure it's the patch I mentioned. I compared full CVS checkouts prior and after that commit and there's clearly a difference.

Just a quick thought: Earlier today/ yesterday a patch which fixes a use of a uninitialized variable in the code in question was committed, maybe it was related to this bug, so please try again with latest CVS.

Tomas Groth <tgc>
Thu 26 Jul 2007 06:43:12 PM UTC, comment #16:

I tracked the problem down to this commit:

Log message:
Applied patch by Alexander Sack :

* configure.ac: detect usable pbutils for automatic installation of
missing codecs.
* server/asobj/NetStreamGst.cpp: try installing missing codecs
as needed.

CVSWeb URLs:
http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/gnash/ChangeLog?cvsroot=gnash&r1=1.3577&r2=1.3578
http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/gnash/configure.ac?cvsroot=gnash&r1=1.343&r2=1.344
http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/gnash/server/asobj/NetStreamGst.cpp?cvsroot=gnash&r1=1.54&r2=1.55

Anyone who understands the patch?

valgrind should tell you if it's a problem with the bounds.
The more of us might be just luckier.

Any other idea? Anything I could check?

I don't think this is related to the bounds, because then more of us would have this issue.

My gut feeling is that it's the video_character_instance bounds patch having introduced this. Thomas already fixed a related bug for the embedded video case.

News: 0.8.0 works!

I attached debug output for this version. Hope that gives you more information...

I have gstreamer 0.10.10.
Debug information attached as requested.

Haven't tested with 0.8.0. Have to compile it first, then I'll tell you.

Not that I did change anything to the host's configuration, but how can I check that GST has the codec required for the video?

I tried "*,2", and I don't get any warnings/errors at all, so i'm assuming that something is wrong with you gstreamer installation. I have gstreamer 0.10.13 installed.

Tomas Groth <tgc>
Wed 25 Jul 2007 12:37:22 PM UTC, comment #8:

I tried "*,2" myself (and it works here).

The only warning I get during playback (rms singing, trimmed to 12 seconds) is:

0:00:01.378459000 30971 0x85f8f18 WARN jacksink gstjackaudiosink.c:363:gst_jack_ring_buffer_open_device:<autoaudiosink0-actual-sink-jackaudio> error: Cannot connect to the Jack server (status 17)

Then, when video finishes (but remember that it's trimmed using dd, brute force), I get a lot of these warnings:

0:00:14.159413000 30971 0x8313f00 WARN mad gstmad.c:1385:gst_mad_chain: mad_header_decode had an error: lost synchronization

So, no "too short" message at all for me.
gnash --version reports:

Gstreamer version is: 0.10.12

I know the using GST_DEBUG=*,3" gives alot of output, but it is needed to see what is wrong. If you could pipe all the input to a file and attach it to this bug report it would be great. I'm not sure what to make of the output, but i hope more output will help.

The last message is printed continously when the video "plays". For those situations when the player freezes I see that message exactly twice before it freezes.

Does this tell you anything?

This sound really weird, I'm using the code from your script and can't reproduce. Since when have you had this issue?
I don't think this the hidden video is a NetStream issue, but to test if gstreamer is complaining you can add "GST_DEBUG=*,3 " in front of the "gui/gnash ..." line.

Tomas Groth <tgc>
Wed 25 Jul 2007 09:11:10 AM UTC, comment #3:

Yes, I can. Sound stops and resumes correctly.

Skipping forward leads to all kinds of weird errors, however.

This is the script I use to test:

--------------------------8<------------------------
#!/bin/sh
url="http://youtube.com/watch?v=xJOGq5XTojo"
swf=$(wget --quiet -O - "$url" | grep -F player2.swf | cut -d \" -f 2)
echo SWF = $swf
gui/gnash -v $* "http://youtube.com$swf"
--------------------------8<------------------------

Note sometimes the player just freezes before starting to play and the player window becomes unresponsive.

What other video movie could I test?

gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)
(the one that still fails "make check"; all other movies run fine, however)

I can't reproduce this with neither gl or agg, ffmpeg or gst using standalone player. You say audio plays fine, can you pause the playback and resume?

I attached a new screenshot (current HEAD, problem still persists). Have a look at the progress bar which shows both current position and buffer status.

Can you play YouTube videos using the standalone player (not plugin)?

I see the player controls, the FLV movie is being loaded, the
progress bar advances and I even hear the sound, but no video. Do you
have the same problems?

I use this little script:
