Fixed by using the new sprite_instance::loadMovie method which works good in this case.
I obsoleted the attach_extern_movie which was beign used before,
since it showed to be bogus (no, I didn't inspect the details, but I find it better to use a class method then a free function for this kind of operation)

The simple working version uses loadMovie.
The non-working one uses GetUrl2

SWFACTION_GETURL2
Method: GET
Target: Window
LoadVars: No
Reserved bits: 0

The target (Window) is suspicious to me.

Attached two additional (simpler) test files which work with Gnash.

"simple-loader.swf" loads "simple.swf"

Still, the question remains why Gnash can't play the other files (PP has no problems with it)

(file #13239, file #13240)

Just try out the attached files, the problem still exists.

Playing gnash-page.swf is no problem, but playing gnash-scroll.swf (which loadMovie("gnash-page.swf") fails displaying the page.

So it isn't a parsing problem since the simple file can be displayed by Gnash..

Does this bug item still make sense ?
Should the summary be changed or completely closed ?

it means the parser found a tag with id 777.
From swf.h, that's:

REFLEX = 777

I guess an SWF8 only tag.
Not necessarely a show stopper, if lenght of the tag can be
correctly computed.

About being non-showed (if it's showed when loaded standalone) did you try forcing invalidated bounds ?

Note that loadMovie with target is tested with loadMovieTest.swf
and associated runner...

Confirmed, I get the message in both situations.
What does it mean, btw?

30806] 17:04:52: ERROR: *** no tag loader for type 777 (movie)

I get the above message both when loading -page and when loading -scroll, don't you ?

Forgot to mention: The loaded movie displays fine in Gnash when loaded stand-alone. See attachments for more details...

When loading an external movie using this code

this.createEmptyMovieClip("container", 999);
loadMovie("gnash-page.swf", container);

I just get this error message:

9378] 15:17:29: getURL2 target load
9378] 15:17:29: Movie file:///mnt/bigdrive/home/udo/gnash/testsuite-udo/gnash-page.swf (SWF6) added to library
9378] 15:17:29: ERROR: *** no tag loader for type 777 (movie)

Depending on the movie being loaded sometimes no /error/ message is shown at all, but I never see the movie on the stage.

The movie being loaded is a simple one created with pdf2swf (swftools.org) but I have the same problem with other movies.
