I am studing the patch from bugs.ghostscript.com. It contain some code to manage the new gs requirements regarding reading input.

There seems to be a patch at the location shown below but it is
concacted in a way that I cannot sort, seems to contain other
patches on top of gv-3.5.8.

To isolate the problem a little further, applying the attached gvpdf.patch to the gs svn source and doing a make clean; make install is sufficient.

I can also confirm that reverting the above patch from gs
results in a working gv. It would be nice if someone finds
why. For the time being I'll just revert the patch.

I have identified the ghostscript patch that breaks gv. It is svn rev. 7834 of gpl ghostscript. When you reverse apply the patch, you will find that gv 8.57 (modified) will work with gv.
I have currently no idea why...

OK....I have tested in with 8.56 and it works fine there. Upgrade
to 8.57 and above symptom.

Sorry, forgot the mention that I am using gv-3.6.2 and the
fact that without the DSC option file displays fine but no
page information.
