I checked out cvs again (05172007) and it had no issues finding my boost libs. It successfully compiled.

Works fine here.

Deanna, Fred: I think rob changed it again, could you both test again ?

This version seems to have broken boost lib configuration on OpenBSD, where it did work in the previous.

-r--r--r-- 1 root bin 76014 Feb 4 11:24 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-mt.a
-r--r--r-- 1 root bin 80360 Feb 4 11:24 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-mt.so.0.0

Configure now gives

BOOST_CFLAGS is -I/usr/local/include
BOOST_LIBS is -L/usr/local/lib -lboost_date_time.a -lboost_thread-mt.a

And linking fails with

/usr/local/bin/libtool --tag=CXX --mode=link ccache c++ -O2 -pipe -g -O0 -Wall -pthread -W -Wall -Wcast-align -Wcast-qual -Wpointer-arith -Wreturn-type -lltdl -L/usr/local/lib -lxml2 -lz -L/usr/local/lib -liconv -lm -L/usr/local/lib -lavcodec -lossaudio -lz -lmp3lame -lfaac -lfaad -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -L/usr/local/lib -lavformat -lavcodec -lossaudio -lz -lmp3lame -lfaac -lfaad -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -ltheora -logg -L/usr/local/lib -lcurl -L/usr/local/lib -lboost_date_time.a -lboost_thread-mt.a -lpthread -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/X11R6/lib -Wl,--as-needed -o gparser -export-dynamic -lltdl parser.o ../server/libgnashserver.la ../libbase/libgnashbase.la ../libamf/libgnashamf.la -L/usr/local/lib -lavcodec -lossaudio -lz -lmp3lame -lfaac -lfaad -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -L/usr/local/lib -lavformat -lavcodec -lossaudio -lz -lmp3lame -lfaac -lfaad -lvorbisenc -lvorbis -lm -logg -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -lavutil -L/usr/local/lib -ltheora -logg -L/usr/local/lib -lglib-2.0 -lintl -liconv -lX11 -lXi -lm

Yes, it now compiles through that portion. I had an issue with something else, but it was related to klash.

I now have a working binary ... and when I get home tonight I'll try some test cases!

Ok, patch checked in. I now do an 'ls' of all possible names, sort through them, and choose the best one (*-mt.so) if it exists, and the other names if not. The preferences are -mt shared, just shared, or -mt static, or just static. I tested this with the 3 prior versions of Boost, both native and cross builds.

It's broken because instead of being just "gcc", it'
s no "gcc34". More stupidities when it comes to naming libraries from the Boost project. I'll improve the pattern. I assume this is built using gcc 3.4.x ? If the boost version can't be found, then the other tests will fail.

I spoke too soon. It still stops in the same place, unable to make. It seems like it can't find certain boost include files or libs.

I apologize! I've been checking out cvs everyday, and it wasn't working.

In the post, I was showing where the libs lived on my system...

Oddly enough, I grabbed the newest boost libs (mine were 1.34 beta) seems like 1.34 Final came out over the weekend, 5/12/2007.

It's building right now, past the spot where it had stopped before.

Fred, I didn't get it.. are you saying that it works or doesn't work ? Try with current HEAD please as there was a typo fix recently.

toril@tor(1):/usr/src/cvs/gnash> ls -la /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-*.a
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 73260 May 6 08:59 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-gcc34-mt-1_34.a
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 774474 May 6 08:59 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-gcc34-mt-d-1_34.a
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 774474 May 6 08:59 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-gcc34-mt-d.a
-rw-r--r-- 2 root root 73260 May 6 08:59 /usr/local/lib/libboost_thread-gcc34-mt.a

This was just a, grab boost, configure and install on a slackware system.

Changed severity as this doesn't block builds on gnashdev anymore.

actually, it seems that the boost-thread lib seeking is not enable
due to the fact that I pass --with-boost-libs.
Please confirm.

On gnashdev host, configure says:

checking for the Boost Version... no version needed

But then it is unable to find boost thread libs, due
to the missing version info:

The library name is libboost_thread-gcc-mt-1_33_1.a, but
the macro goes like:

boostnames="boost_thread-gcc-mt boost_thread-mt boost_thread boost_thread-gcc"
version_suffix=`echo ${gnash_boost_version} | tr '_' '.'`
if test x"${ac_cv_path_boost_lib}" = x; then
AC_MSG_CHECKING([for Boost's thread libraries])
for i in $libslist; do
for libname in ${boostnames}; do
if test -f $i/lib${libname}.a -o -f $i/lib${libname}.${shlibext}; then

...

so will never find the lib.

If we don't fix this the online testcases will not be in sync
