Jerome, your gnu mail address has been added to French translators alias in fencepost.

Now, I'm closing this bug. Thanks!

Alex,

thank you to have granted my write CVS access back.

Before any decision regarding translation of gnu.org, and not only the GNU philosophy part, I need to discuss with Yann and APRIL volunteers.

For the moment you can add taz@gnu to the web-translators-fr alias.

I have your e-mail, but no time for respond. I send you a e-mail now.

With Alex Muntada, we have speak about that on IRC few minut ago and I have join the gnutrad april mailing list.

I've been chatting with Yann a few minutes ago and he said he's willing to work on GNU web translations from APRIL. We also agreed to make 'taz' co-admin of French team in Savannah and grant him write CVS access back. The changes were already made.

Now, I need to know where should web-translators-fr redirect mail to, since now it's only redirecting mail to Yann. Jerome, would you like to add taz@gnu to the alias or you prefer that I add tradgnu@april?

On the other hand, I'm going to change the contact details on translations README so it points to APRIL and the savannah co-admin profiles for French team.

Let me know if there's something else that should be addressed.

Thank you all,
/alexm

April is still willing to help GNU to translate web site. I sent a mail to Yann Le Bris a few days ago, see below (only in French, sorry). I have just subscribed to the web-translators-fr mailing list (which seems very inactive : http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/web-translators-fr/, no mail since March).

But, meanwhile, I need to commit mysef updates of translation because I set up an infrastructure on april.org to to watch over revisions progress of English version (I use cvs revision information). So, please, grant back my write access to CVS.

Historiquement le groupe de travail de l'APRIL ne s'occupe principalement
que des pages qui sont listées dans gnu.org/philosophy. Le but étant de proposer les
textes de la philosophie GNU à un public francophone.

Des scripts me permettent de maintenir une page sur l'état des traductions (les nouvelles
traductions à faire, celles à mettre à jour...). Voir
http://www.april.org/groupes/gnufr/work/documents/etat_traduction.html

Je ne vais plus avoir le temps de m'occuper de tout ça et le traducteur le
plus actif est prêt à prendre la suite. Il faut juste que je documente
les scripts et les rende plus clairs.

Ceci dit, sur gnu.org vous avez peut-être un système plus évolué de
suivi de traductions.

Otherwise, I'll be pasting your responses here and eveyone

We've tried to contact you and trad@gnu several times
last months before revoking your rights; chief-webmaster
agreed on revoking your rights as the last option if
there wasn't any response.

Sincerely, I don't see how these could be bad manners.

Neither do I: long before contacting you and APRIL
a new team was created because there hadn't been any
news from any French translator since I became the
person in charge a few years ago.

Well, I guess that you should've tell us about this
before. You can't expect to work with us without
communicating and not willing to get things solved
unless it's done your way. Revoking your rights
was the last chance to get your attention.

Please, don't blame me for your mistakes.

Note that I'm not telling that APRIL should stop
translating; if you can get to an agreement with
current French team leader to work together under
APRIL I'll be delighted, and I'll grant CVS rights
to new people in charge of the team.

Hence, fixing this issue it's only up to you, but
please let me know if you don't want to discuss it
further so we can contact someone else on APRIL.

Meanwhile, you can send any urgent translation
updates to <web-translators@gnu.org>.

Best regards, truly.

Sorry but I'll not join any list until my write access to CVS is
granted back. Treating people like this is bad manners that I would
not have expected from GNU.

I have many translations ready to be updated. APRIL members have been
doing a huge job translating GNU texts since years and I do not see
the need to constitute a new group. I was sick and haven't answered
to your mails due to the huge amount of spam that I receive daily but
our team is still active even if I had few time to commit from
february to may.

Once my CVS access is reopened, I will gladly quit for someone that
has more time. I have been working with Cedric Corraza from a long
time ago and I think he is the best person to coordinate volunteers.
He has done a lot of translations, perfectly knows the infrastructure
used and has all skills needed to coordinate.

We'll discuss about that on trans-coord-discuss mailing list, or other
list as you want.

Jerome.

Jerome, you've been invited to join trans-coord-discuss.
Feel free to invite other people to join the list but,
since my approval is required, let me know their mail
addresses so I can confirm their subscription or invite
them, as you prefer.

Anyone performing translations for GNU Web is welcome.

I'm sorry but I didn't see your previous emails (I was sick for a long time).

APRIL's workgroup "GNU Philosophy translation" has been
translating part of the GNU web site since 1996 (mainly pages linked from /philosophy).
Around 140 translations have been done. We use APRIL facility (web site, mailing site)
for our work.

I'm the current team leader of translators, but I haven't enough time to do the job.
I think Cedric Corraza is willing to do the job.

Do you have a mailing list where I can subscribe ?

Please, could you give me again write access to CVS ? I need to update some
French translations.

Hi Karl,
Hi Wolfgang,
I just found you as former translation contacts for French
in http://www.gnu.org, so I'm adding you to this savannah bug in
order to invite you to join the new French translation team
that Yann has been leading for a while.

We feel that your former experience in French translation
would be most welcome to the current team and they'll be
pleased to have you in the team.

BTW, we've tried to contact Jerome serveral times but we
were always unsuccessful. If you'd be so kind to let him
know about us, it'd be great :)

Thanks a lot!

Hi Jerome,
Yann Le Bris (sharlaan) formed and official translation team
for French a while ago since it seemed that there wasn't anyone
working on http://www.gnu.org French translations.

After that team was created, you started to publish some updates
to French translations and adapt some pages to the new look.
Since it seemed that you've been involved in GNU translations
or webmastering long ago, I asked Yann to contact you and invite
you to join the French translation team, so they could benefit
from your experience.

However, Yann has been unsuccessful to reach you so we decided
to take our chances and see if we were luckier than Yann.

Can you please bring some light about your work on http://www.gnu.org
translations in the past? (We couldn't find anything in the
people and webmasters pages.) Would you also please volunteer
to help the current French translation team becoming one of
its members? They're keen to work with you.

Thanks a lot!
