In fact, LaTeX doesn't support empty lines generated by a succession of "\\" or "\newline" (! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.)

Also, TeX ignore succession of \par macro.

Imho, the nicest trick to force line break (even if it's remain ugly) is to insert empty boxes between \par. As an example, the macro \def\ForceNewLine{\mbox{}\par} works, afaik.

I am one of those who think that TeXmacs should not support exporting multiple newlines, and that actually TeXmacs should not allow input of multiple newlines by default (in natural language context).

That feature is completely unstructured, and generally it is used where vertical spaces should be used.

In natural language contexts, it is only useful for scratchpad documents. So it think it should be disabled by default, and that a variable should be used to allow it explicitely.

Once that is accepted, exporting multiple newlines to LaTeX becomes much less of an issue.

<vdhoeven>:
There is no simple solution to this problem, due to the completely crazy way that LaTeX deals with newlines.
