I was able to reproduce this on GNU/Linux which is presumably what is implied if this was found by valgrind.

A fix should be in CVS. Thanks for the report.

It would be very helpful if you recompiled libcdio with debugging symbols (e.g. 'gcc -g') so we can see in the valgrind trace line numbers in addition to machine addresses. Thanks.

Seeing the following leak inside libcdio when calling cdio_open with a device name that the user doesn't have permissions to access:
