It was a change in sprite_instance::restart() breaking this :(
I committed a fix and some comments about a more robust implementation.

This bug is still an issue.
I tracked down the difference I had between two builds to
the different url used to load the movies.
When using a separate build tree the $(top_srcdir) is absolute.
When building in source tree $(top_srcdir) is relative.

A bug in URL class corrupted memory when $(top_srcdir) was relative and this resulted in unstable behaviours.

Now the URL bug is fixed and we're back to the original problem
which is : why isn't the jpeg shown ?

I updated loadMovie.swf to avoid adding a file:// prefix so we
have less variables to take into account.

Trying to track down the original problem I found out that
this change introduced it:

http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewcvs/gnash/server/sprite_instance.cpp?root=gnash&r1=1.187&r2=1.188

I think it's the display list reset in particular.

The loadMovieTest.swf file generated under testsuite/misc-ming.all used to work fine with AGG, and still does work fine with opengl. But since a couple of days or so (Udo's commits most likely) it started behaving in a weird way:

It takes 2 clicks for loaded movies to show.
I can't attach the movie as it has URL of things to load
hard-coded in (pointing to $srcdir). Best way is installing
Ming.
