Tue 03 Dec 2002 12:08:34 PM UTC, original submission:

Procedure:

Create a session (say, a Pari session).
type: (a+b)^2 return
select: Input mode->Mathematical input
type: (a-b)^2 return
select: Input mode->Text input
type: (a+b)*(a-b) return

Move the caret to the first session input.
Press return.
The contents of the second session input are deleted. The caret should simply move to the start of the mathematical input instead of deleting it and replacing it by an empty text input.

Select: Input mode->Mathematical input
Press return.
The contents of the third session input are deleted for the same reason.

Proposed fix:

The member variable edit_process_rep::math_input should be removed and replaced by an environment variable ("session input mode", maybe). The menu would set the init-env value of this variable. The init-env value would only be used for NEW sesssion input. So existing session inputs would never be modified unwillingly.
