So does the proprietary player.

AS has an OnMouseWheel event since SWF version 5

I agree, not doing anything with it unless it is assigned would be nicer than the proprietary player's behaviour.

I've noticed browsing with gnash plugin, that the mouse wheel is grabbed by gnash, so you can't scroll the browser window with it if you mouse is inside the gnash window. Should this be considered a bug ? I don't think SWF or ActionScript expose any way to actually use the mouse wheel, in which case there's no point grabbing it.
