Sorry, but the summary of this bug is too generic, and thus invalid. I suggest you open different bug items for different issues. There's probably NO configure switch to specify konqueror plugin location, but I don't build klash myself (that's it's name) so I'm not sure.. check for 'klash' anyway.

Sandro,
I have attached "configure.log" resulting from "./configure --enable-klash --with-plugindir=/usr/lib/firefox/plugins/" run as listed by console herewith.
Regarding some confusion in "README" :
...By default, the configure script looks for the "GtkGl" extension, and if that can't be found, it defaults to using SDL...The GTK version has full event handling, and supports a right-click mouse menu to control the movie. The SDL version has no event handling, which means mouse clicks and keys pressed get ignored...There is now experimental sound support if you configure this into your build. What works now is the "sdl" sound handler with either the "ffmpeg" or "libMad" decoder.
So why is "GtkGl" first choice if the only way to get sound is SDL ! ; I would strongly recommand an error message if "SDL" libraries and "mad" or "ffmpeg" libraries are missing except if some users want "*.swf" capabilities with no sound and no graphics (joking !) ; if both "ffmpeg" or "libMad" are installed which one is used ?.
You did not answer my question regarding the way to indicate to "Konqueror" where to get its "swf" plugging as you do not propose a switch in "./configure" as for "firefox" pluggins.

1) it was a typo :) gnash -v (hypen, not dot)
2) any patch to clarify ./configure messages will be appreciated;
about warnings I tought they were on, please look at configure
output, and if they are missing, again a patch is welcome.
Regarding other issues please query the bug database
and see if you find a match. For firefox sound we
have bug #18154, for klash check for it or open a new bug
item.

Sandro,
some progress :
1) first of all back on b) point ; in one of your message you proposed to execute :
$ gnash .v <your_file>
which I did !
2) I compiled CVS release_0_7_2 ; I have this now :
$ gnash --version
Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
Gnash comes with NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law.
You may redistribute copies of Gnash under the terms of the GNU General
Public License. For more information, see the file named COPYING.
Build options 0.7.2
Renderer: opengl GUI: gtk Sound handler: sdl Decoder: mad
As you can see I have "SDL" and "mad" installed compared to previous status ; this should be clarified in "./configure" as information in "INSTALL" makes believe that SDL is not necessary if "Gtk" is installed ! ; I woud recommand to display error message when either sound or graphic libraries are missing !
Now I have this :
a) "Gnash" works perfectlky well on "*.swf" files frome the test suite ; by the way when compiling with "make check" I have some error message at the end of the process ; what is this supposed to do ?
b) "Firefox" works on "*.swf" files only on display as I have no sound at all ! ; anything missing in compilation process ?
c) "Klash" is failing on "*.swf" files ; it starts very fast also with sound whith a fixed shaking picture at the end ! ; by the way how am I supposed to indicate to Konqueror where its plugging is located ?
Regards.

a) it is completely fine to build with no sound, but yes, I agree that if the default is to enable sound, raising a warning would be nice (are you sure you see NO warnings there?)
b) I do see a '.v' argument given to gnash, what would you expect ?
c) cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sv.gnu.org:/sources/gnash co -r release_0_7_2 gnash

Sandro,
a) why is no sound support not seen by "./configure" as an error (lack of something !) ; what option to add to force addition of sound ?
b) when I do :
$gnash .v '/home/dmoyne/tmp/AcuteAnimator/examplestoolsad/acuteanimator_arialblack.swf'
I get this error :
Could not load movie '.v'
There is something wrong here !
c) how do I get the release you propose knowing that I have done this with my last try :
$ cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sv.gnu.org:/sources/gnash co gnash
Thanks.

output of --version clearly tells that you have NO sound support compiled in. reguarding not seeing anything that might be due to an unsupported SWF version. please attach the output of gnash .v <yourfile>.
Also it would be good if you could try the release_0_7_2 branch of CVS.

Do you mean you don't hear the sound ?
Which version again ? (gnash --version should tell you)

When trying to open swf file directly with Gnash works for small pictures apparently with no sound inside but not with files with sound inside.

Are you using the 'head' branch ?
Can you be more specific about what doesn't work ?
Does the standalone player work ?

Wed 08 Nov 2006 12:02:23 AM UTC, original submission:
I have correctly compiled Gnash with no problems but neither "Firefox" or "Konqueror" can display Flash web sites ; strange as everything worked fine on Ubuntu Dapper !
Regards.
