I just finished testing this after building boost with use=threads and gnash did configure. I ran into some other issues with QT and after rebuilding QT with use=opengl and a few other things gnash now builds on my system. Thanks for your help.

Thanks, I'm going to close this bug then.

The current version of the Boost macro does find the libs, and compilation completes successfully.

I'd think this is a Gentoo specific problem since you have to compile all your dependant libraries, which other distributions don't. If after building the Boost thread libraries, does the current version of the Boost macro find the libraries ? If not, what are they named ? The 64 bit versions should be found in preferance to the 32 bit ones.

The answer is that the macro changes from yesterday do help. I was unable to compile gnash before yesterday, but I did this: echo "dev-libs/boost threads" >> /etc/portage/package.use. This makes it so that boost is compile with threads support. Not having the threads compiled will prevent gnash from compiling. I thought that I was clear about the package boost needing the threads flag. The boost libs, and headers are installed in /usr/lib, and /usr/include/boost. On a 64 bit Gentoo install the boost libs are installed into /usr/lib64, which /usr/lib is a symlink to /usr/lib64.

Threads flag to what ? Configure or emerge ? I don't have any Gentoo systems to test on. There have also been changes to the boost macro yesterday, I'd love to know if they help with the problem.

Gentoo users need to compile boost with the threads flag. Doing so will allow gnash to compile.

On most machines the Boost headers are in /usr/include/boost, and the Boost libs are in /usr/lib/. The Boost dependancy was only added yesterday so we can use Boost mutexes to make Gnash thread safe. I'd be curious where on Gentoo Boost gets installed, as it's likely a non-standard place. Since Boost support is new, ot's likely we'll be tweaking the configure support for other platforms than ther two I have.

You can also run configure like this "sh -x ./configure" to get all the script debugging messages to see why this failed.

When running configure on CVS I get the following error:

ERROR: No BOOST development package installed! You need to have the BOOST development package installed to compile, or install libboost-thread1.33.1-dev
and libboost-dev (using apt-get) or libboost-thread-dev (using yum).

configure: error: Please install required packages

I have boost installed and all of it headers as well. I am running Gentoo 2006.1 and using the gnash CVS ebuild in portage. CVS was building OK on my machine 2 weeks ago. I also posted in the Gentoo forums about this and others are having the same problem.
