The only thing to do IMHO is making loading/parsing faster.
The movie starts loading before the window is even created,
but you must either wait for full load or do it togheter.

I am not an expert, but is not possible to load the rest of the swf file just after the window is opened and not during the animation itself (if I load the swf file and wait for some time the first animation is again slow; would be nice if the rest of the file would be loaded during this time)?

Yes you are right. Undefining LOAD_MOVIES_IN_A_SEPARATE_THREAD make it fast again, as fast as Macromedia.
But if we keep LOAD_MOVIES_IN_A_SEPARATE_THREAD defined it is slower, and this is really a bug.
And yes, OpenGL is enabled on both my PCs.

For the first animation gnash loads the rest of a swf-file. Therefore the first animation is slower. If you do not want that was so, undef LOAD_MOVIES_IN_A_SEPARATE_THREAD preprocessor option. I think that the reason of slow animation - absence of hardware OPENGL.

Can has come it is time to change the girl (boobs1.swf, boobs2.swf, ...) ? :-)
By my machine she even to lower a shirt is not in time as again lifts :-)

I noticed slower rendering with this file:
http://funcop.net/boobs.swf
having the md5sum of:
5f32f9ab969da590fdf533a8fdd0ce8d boobs.swf

Seems that current code is slower than that of around 2006-07-20 and before, especially for the first animation, the following animations are a bit faster.

I have 2 PC with a i810. One PC has a Slackware 10.2, the other a FC5. Drivers are that of X.org, with DRI enabled. I can reproduce the problem on both PC: the first time I trigger the animation is slow (about 3s for raising the shirt), the following times are faster (about 1s). Note that I don't think this is a gfx-card problem, since before about 2006-07-20 worked fine.

(I already have reported this in a comment of bug #17473, now closed)
