After further investigation, this is unrelated to the endian-ness problem. It seems to have something to do with the variable movie_version getting set to 0 somewhere.

Problem: After commenting the call to assert() at line 45 of tu_types.cpp (and the #else surrounding it), Gnash crashes with the error "error: can't get info about foo.swf" when trying to play any .swf file.

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment the #else statement around line 45 of tu_types.cpp containing the call to assert() for !little_endian.
Recompile gnash.
Try to load any .swf file.
