What you wish to do is:

grep -a -l -r "byte-me" --include \*.txt .

Hello,

I have discovered a small problem when using GREP with the -r/-R option to recurse subfolders and a filename masks (e.g. .txt, .doc, *.cpp, etc...).

If you type:

GREP -a -l -r "byte-me" *.txt

it will default to searching the current folder but none of the subfolders.
