There are tons of times I'd really like to have vertical splits. pharmacy With monitors getting wider, not taller, this is becoming more of a reasonable configuration.

This is non-trivial, since having both types of splits would involve nesting windows.

Bill Pursell <bill.pursell@gmail.com> already wrote a patch for this which could either be included or used as a starting point.

Non trivial to do it properly (like ratpoison). But not impossibly difficult to do a reasonable compromise where the user can have vertical splits OR horizontal, not mixed. There are tons of times I'd really like to have vertical splits. With monitors getting wider, not taller, this is becoming more of a reasonable configuration.

It would be nice if in addition to splitting the screen horizontally (by default, ^A+S), it would be possible to split the screen vertically. This is non-trivial, since having both types of splits would involve nesting windows.
