Hi Bob,

Thanks for forwarding/reporting that, but this
affects only systems for which non-root users can
give away files. I think there are very few systems
that are actually configured that way, and those that are
have much bigger problems than how cp -a works.

Bottom line: I don't think it's worth catering to such systems.

At this time this is still a problem for coreutils when used on an OS that allows chown.
