Gnash now builds on BSD systems without POSIX shared memory support.

I just checked in support for using the older SVR4 style shared memory (shmget(), shmat(), shmdt()) that's supported on NetBSD and OpenBSD. This has been tested on GNU/Linux, and works fine there. A configure test looks for shm_open(), and the rest adapts to that result.

I just checked in a fix so this file doesn't try to compile shm.c if shm_open() doesn't exist. I'm having an unrelated problem with container.h on the openBSD system I have access to, but once that's fixed, I'll later implement a non POSIX shared memory support code.

I find it a bit hard to believe, but neither NetBSD, nor OpenBSD has full POSIX support.

These BSD systems don't support POSIX shared memory ? The shm_open() calls should exist on all modern operating systems. I'd be suprised they aren't on a *BSD system.

Arg... I can add code to not use named shared memory, but what a pain in the neck... so I guess I'll add a configure test, and not compile shm.c for now on BSD. The classes that will use this aren't done yet anyway, and I can add the BSD shared memory system calls when I get a chance.

As of 2006-02-08, server/server.cpp can't be compile anymore on system where shm_open/shm_unlink are not implemeted (like {Net,Open}BSD).
Any chance to have autoconf check for HAVE_SHMGET vs HAVE_SHM_OPEN ?
