If I wait long enough, the window will unfreeze and everything's hunky-dory. When I'm not feeling that patient, I can make yet another ssh connection, and kill the process for the first ssh connection, which will immediately unfreeze the window. cialis I find that if I simply kill the screen running in the old ssh connection, screen becomes unstable.

I run 'screen -xDD' as the remote command in PuTTY. Intermittently, just one screen window will freeze. I can open a new window and ctrl-A K kill the trouble one, but often times the new window will then shortly freeze (but not always). I haven't found a way to reproduce it, although it seems to happen exclusively during output. buy cialis
The server is headless and off-site, so I don't know if the problem is related to SSH since thats the only way I connect and it never occured prior to using screen.

Looks like another case where tweaking "nonblock" will have good effect? And, this report has entirely too much spam, sheesh.

Thirty years since they last appeared at London Roundhouse, The Stranglers will, once more, be appearing at the legendary London venue as part of a UK tour also calling at Glasgow and Manchester.

With 32 top 40 hits spanning over 4 decades and numerous gold and platinum albums, The Stranglers remain true to form. First gigging in 1975, the band's straight talking approach was sometimes interpreted as aggressive and confrontational but, if truth be known, they were more musically gifted than many of their peers.

I also have noticed that it happens exclusively during output. Sometimes I can wait a long period of time (15 to 20 minutes) and the frozen screen window will become responsive again. About half the time I end up forcefully killing the window after waiting 10 minutes or so. The problem does not seem to affect non-active screen windows. cialis , levitra , xenical , celexa , cheap viagra

It seems the proper way to fix this is to deal with blocking operations in screen better so that one blocked client doesn't cause others to block. Short of fiddling with TCP settings or throwing more buffers at the problem, I'm not sure what else could be done. buy viagra

Mon 14 Jan 2008 01:31:07 AM UTC, comment #16:

I see these symptoms when I have a stale ssh connection with a screen inside.  In particular, I see this after
1. I ssh into my server and start or attach screen there.  Suppose I leave the screen on window 2.
2. I get ungracefully disconnected from the Internet (for example, I move my laptop to another network), such that the ssh process is still running on the server.
3. I ssh back in from another IP.  The old ssh process still has a TCP connection, but there is no longer a host at the remote endpoint, so the TCP connection will take a very long time to shut down (even if data is being sent, without any negative acknowledgement from the remote endpoint TCP can retransmit very persistently).
4. I re-attach to the screen and interact with window 2 to cause output.
5. Eventually window 2 freezes up, though I can still switch to other windows.  If I try to kill just window 2, screen becomes very unstable.

If I wait long enough, the window will unfreeze and everything's hunky-dory.  When I'm not feeling that patient, I can make yet another ssh connection, and kill the process for the first ssh connection, which will immediately unfreeze the window.  I find that if I simply kill the screen running in the old ssh connection, screen becomes unstable.

My guess is that the screen running in the stale ssh session continues to produce output, but eventually the TCP buffer fills up as it keeps retransmitting packets, which puts back-pressure on ssh and thus on the screen client and then on the screen server, and things freeze up.

It seems the proper way to fix this is to deal with blocking operations in screen better so that one blocked client doesn't cause others to block.  Short of fiddling with TCP settings or throwing more buffers at the problem, I'm not sure what else could be done.

Almost the same thing here. I have two screens nested and run autossh on the first, which runs on a box at my home to open a tunnel to a headless server. So this freeze-symptom also kills my connection home.
I can directly re-ssh to the server, but today it had the same problems there, without being attached in the containing (home) screen. During screen repaint (by a resize of putty) with irssi running, everything freezes. :(

I've also experienced this freeze often when using screen via OpenSSH on a RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 box. It seems to happen more often during key repeats or fast typing. The freeze ends after a few minutes with an SSH disconnection. A workaround is to simply reconnect to the system via SSH and issue a 'screen -rd' to reconnect to the screen session.

I don't think its related to 15175. This occurs in the middle of an open session, not on or after SSH abort as the other report seems to indicate.
After reading the previous comment, I just had this happen to me again, so I killed the SSH connection and reconnected about 30 minutes later, and it was working again.
Also, this isn't a Debian-specific bug - I'm running Gentoo.
