Suggessted nonblock setting should hopefully have fixed the user's problem.

Set "nonblock on" in screenrc.

Seems to work for me, but I'm not using a debian system. Why don't you file a bug report in the debian bug database?

I am using screen 4.0.0.2 on Debian unstable.
