a note:

I run FreeBSD on x86 (little endian) and NetBSD on sparc v8 (big endian). Maybe an endianness problem? Although linux/x86 is little endian too... I must check NetBSD/ppc (big endian).

I have not tested yet on the same box (FreeBSD) but will do so soon.
I have however built yesterday on NetBSD 2.0.2 and there it reports that I have 6.61MB free, while:

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 4042476 2107956 1732396 54% /
kernfs 1 1 0 100% /kern

Not having FreeBSD, I've tested the changes on Darwin-8 and it seems to report the right value. Please, test it on FreeBSD.

on my FreeBSD box, GWorkspace reports 115.31 GB free space... although my HD is physically only 32GB big.

In any case:

> df -k

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/ad1s2a 19321882 2619720 15156412 15% /
devfs 1 1 0 100% /dev
