This simply is not possible because the bios does not provide that information to grub. Grub only knows that there are hard disks of some kind starting at bios device 0x80.

Now we have (hd0) through (hdN)

Wish to also have (ide0) through (ideN) and (sda0) through (sdaN)

Reason: my IDE chain may change, but my scsi chain doesn't, so (sda0) will always be the right device; sometimes it's (hd2) and sometimes its (hd3).

Other chain names could be added for (cd0) through (cdN) for cds, another name for chains of usb devices, etc.
