First, I enter an inline math environment by pressing $, and create a new line without exiting the environment, by pressing Enter. Then, I create a subscripted item anywhere on the second line by pressing _ and typing. When I press the right arrow to exit the subscript, the cursor exits the entire math environment. When I attempt to reenter the environment by pressing the left arrow key once, I end up back in the subscript, with no way to exit it but still remain in the math environment.
