I'm using NSPortIsMessagePort YES. If an app is 'quit' by shutting the machine down, or quiting the X session (closing the window manager). When the machine is restart, and the app is restart. I will get this error:

I couldn't contact the notification server for local host -
so I'm attempting to to start one - which will take a few seconds.
Trying to launch gdnc from /System/Tools or a machine/operating-system subdirectory.
It is recommended that you start the notification server (gdnc) either at
login or (better) when your computer is started up.

If apps are quit directly (by pressing the 'quit' menu item), this problem does not occur
