As previously stated. This is not part of the normal functioning of the spell checker. Closing. GJC

This behavior is not part of what OPENSTEP or Cocoa is documented to do, so it is an enhancement.

It will require the spelling system to keep a list of valid dictionaries which it doesn't currently do. The spellchecker, GSspell, only knows about the dictionaries that aspell has.

I will look into doing this.

If for example, I have NSLanguages set to Japanese, trying to spellcheck any document will result in a dialog saying there is no Japanese dictionary. It gives the disctinct impression that I won't be able to spell check my English (or otherwise) file. But, if you open the spelling panel, and select AmericanEnglish, it will work fine. Would it be better to fall back to an installed dictionary, if one for the selected language is not present? I think it would be better if this happened automatically, rather than presenting a dialog that the user would have to click 'ok' to dismiss.
