The ugly fix has been removed. The real problem was fixed in cvs.

A workaround is available in the CVS version.

Basically, the check performed by
AC_LIBTOOL_SYS_MAX_CMD_LEN is skipped by injecting an arbitrary value (32768) in the cache, using the lt_cv_sys_max_cmd_len environment variable.

This is of course ugly, but probably better of getting ./configure block forever.

The patch is attached.

Sat 04 Jun 2005 09:20:54 PM UTC, original submission:

AC_PROG_LIBTOOL resulting code snippet blocks indefinitely when srcinst runs ./configure .

The test that blocks is the maximum command line arguments check.

The same test run from the command line ($ ./configure) takes some time to complete but eventually works.
