That syntax error is telling you that your local copy of the file is corrupt ... probably because you edited it in some way which was incompatible with changes in CVS, and when you updated from CVS, the cvs command would have warned you that there was a conflict in the file, and marked the incompatible code sctions with >>> and <<< sequences.
The simple solution is to delete the file and fetch a fresh copy from CVS.

I am using gnustep from CVS, updating it regularly (last update: April 1st, 2005) and since some week (or more) gnustep-gui fails to compile with the following error:

...
Compiling file NSCell.m ...
Compiling file NSClipView.m ...
Compiling file NSColor.m ...
NSColor.m:736: error: syntax error before '<<' token

make: *** [internal-all] Error 2

I am using Fedora Core 1 with gcc (GCC) 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1) which until now had no problems with GNUstep libraries. I am using the -art backend for GNUstep.

Cheers,
George
