You can make a pair of macros @mymacro, @endmymacro, one to open the environment, one to close the environment. That should be good enough.

Anyway, I suppose a way to define new environments would be nice, but given the horrible mess that user-defined macros have gotten us into, I'm not inclined to rush into anything.
